Local Outreach
At FBC we want to encourage all followers of Christ to GO and be intentional about sharing the hope we have in Christ with others in our community.
The Local Outreach Task Force supports ministries and individual efforts to GO into our neighborhoods and schools, to care for the poor and marginalized, to welcome foreigners, to advocate for the pre-born, and many other areas.
A current focus area of ministry is a nearby under-served neighborhood called Southern Villa. There are many families that live there who have not heard the Gospel in their native language. This effort started with a group of volunteers sharing popsicles with kids as they returned home from school on their school buses. This grew into building friendships with others in the community. These friendships provided the opportunity to lead weekly Come and See Bible studies in one of the resident’s homes. Volunteers also continually look for opportunities to deepen relationships and strengthen the community through fun activities like outdoor movie nights and summer swim lessons. Practical needs are being met as they arise, and classes to meet literacy needs are currently being considered.

CFH is a Christian humanitarian relief organization serving both physical (food, clothing, etc.) and spiritual needs locally and worldwide. Volunteer ministry opportunities in the Tulsa area include:
- Adopt a Tulsa Housing Authority facility. Opportunity to serve residents once a month through worship, biblical teaching, and distribution of food. CFH currently serves 11 different locations in partnership with local area churches, with more facilities available for adoption.
- Organize donated food, clothing, etc. at the CFH facility.
- Organize a food drive to keep their shelves stocked.
- Help clean/maintain CFH facilities.

John 3:16 Mission is an interdenominational Christian ministry that exists to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of Tulsa's hungry, homeless, and at-risk. A variety of ministry opportunities are available at both the mission downtown and at the Family & Youth Center. Some of the volunteer opportunities include:
Men's & Women's Ministries
- Evening chapel speakers, worship teams, and volunteers to serve meals after chapel services.
- Day center for women - befriend ladies, help with afternoon crafts, teach Bible studies, and volunteer in the office.
Family & Children's Ministries
- After school tutoring, creative arts, and monthly outreach for North Tulsa kids.
- Stock food pantry, help families shop for clothes in clothing room, and distribute food baskets.

TULSA DAY CENTER

The Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless is the only daytime shelter in Tulsa for people that are homeless or in need. An average of 400 people seek shelter or services at the center each day. Volunteer opportunities include RNs (to work the clinic), receptionists and office assistants, clothing and storage room workers, and kitchen volunteers. They strongly prefer a commitment of one, 3-hour shift every week.
COMMUNITY sharehouse

The main goal of Sharehouse is to reach souls for the Lord as well as provide furniture to those in need. Sharehouse collects furniture throughout the year and stores it in their warehouse facility. This furniture is used to serve the needs of the poor in Tulsa County, which also provides a connection point to minister to their spiritual needs. INTERNATIONALS
Did you know that as of 2015, Oklahoma had 8,772 international students studying on university campuses? There are 1,200 international students at the University of Tulsa alone. These students are some of the brightest and best from all across the world. We literally have the opportunity to reach the world at our doorstep with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Following are two ministries that are looking for volunteers to help them reach out to internationals in our community.

ICO is a ministry serving international students and visiting scholars in the greater Tulsa area. They provide various ministry opportunities meeting practical needs of students with the goal of building relationships that open the door to spiritual conversations. Typical opportunities include:
- Free international lunch served every Thursday at the Wesley Center on the TU Campus. ICO would love to have FBC volunteers prepare and serve meals to the international students. We would love to see FBC committed to serving one lunch per month.
- English clubs: Host and participate in English clubs held at volunteer homes.
- Individual English training opportunities.
- Host/Volunteer at various events to provide opportunities to build and strengthen relationships which can blossom into more involvement with students, assisting them in adjusting to this culture.

CPO provides love and assistance, free of charge, to young women who are experiencing a crisis pregnancy, and to their children as well. Volunteer opportunities include:
- Transportation - drive girls to doctor's appointments, counseling, church, or other CPO-approved events.
- Mentor girls in the program.
- Host pregnant girls in your home.
- Volunteer in the office, at baby showers, or fundraising events.

DaySpring Villa is the only faith-based, certified domestic violence shelter in Oklahoma. They are also the only shelter certified by the Oklahoma Attorney General’s office to address the special needs of adult victims of sexual trafficking. DaySpring provides shelter, comprehensive services, goals-based programs, and unbiased care in a protective, faith-based environment to transform the lives of battered women and their children, as well as adult sexual trafficking victims. Multiple volunteer opportunities available for both men and women include:
- Professional services: legal, medical, dental, & office assistants
- Mentors and childcare providers
- General maintenance, housekeeping, and cooking
- Special events (take VBS to them)

MEND is a life affirming organization whose purpose is to help women find and implement positive, loving solutions for unplanned pregnancies. This ministry encourages women to choose life by offering support and assistance during these times of crisis. Opportunities to volunteer include: client advocates, receptionists, nurses, trainers, office workers, mentors, etc.

YoungLife is comprised of caring and committed adult leaders that seek out and build relationships with adolescents on their turf. They purposely reach out to kids who are disinterested in church and God. By spending time with the teenagers, they earn the right to be heard and to tell them about Jesus Christ. Join in by connecting with one of the many YoungLife campuses and commit to helping reach at risk students through events like the YL weekly club meetings and other opportunities.

Acts Resource Center started in 2011 through the efforts of a couple of families. They were interested in helping the people of Mounds, and the surrounding area who had clothing needs. It quickly grew into a resource center that provides clothing to the community once a month and clothing and other resources to foster families by appointment. All clothing and resources are provided free of charge to those in need. Here are some ways you can help:
- Sort and hang up clothes - monthly organized volunteer days and also Facebook impromptu days as needed.
- Donate clothing: kids and adult sizes. New underwear and socks for kids are always needed.
- Volunteers to help with clothing distribution. Acts Resource Center is open to the community on the third Saturday of every month from 1-3 PM. Opportunity to interact with the community.
Since the clothing and services are provided free of charge, ARC is also in need of financial partners. Donations can be made to the Mounds Community Development Association (501c3), designated for the Acts Resource Center.

good samaritan health services

Good Samaritan Health Services (GSHS) provides free, quality medical care to people in the areas of most need through the use of two mobile medical trucks and hundreds of volunteers. Through 15 different clinic locations in the Tulsa area and surrounding communities, GSHS offered 55 monthly clinics that cared for 6,500 patients in 2012. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities to serve at their mobile clinic locations. Volunteer needs include: medical professionals (doctors, nurses), clinic volunteers (interpreters, intake desk, runner, medical assistant – intake/vitals), individuals to pray with patients, professional services to maintain the mobile clinics (mechanical, heating/air, electrical), and special event volunteers.
